Song of Songs (sung)
Tue, Oct 23, 2007
Lastnight at the Hebrew class, we listened to Song of Songs chapter 1 being canted beautifully in Hebrew; several people were curious as to how they could get the audio. Right-click here, save/download it to your own computer, and you can listen to it anytime.

(Incidentally, if you have not noticed, our Resources page gives you access to the audio of every chapter of every book in the whole Tanakh. Just click on the Resources tab, above, then look for Tanakh Audio.)

NEW! Biblical Hebrew Flash Cards
Mon, Oct 14, 2007
Over the past few days, I have been working on something that I could use to build, develop, strengthen my own vocabulary in Biblical Hebrew. We joke about the "501 Hebrew Verbs" book, saying that it includes the 501 words least likely to be found in the Tanakh. Well, this flash card system I am building is actually oriented around the most common words in Scripture. It only has some 80+ terms in it so far, but I am slowly adding to that number. I know this system is going to help me; perhaps it will be useful to us all.

No Class on Labor Day!
Mon, Sep 3, 2007
Tonight, there will be no Hebrew class. Apparently most of the group knows this but I must have missed the memo. See y'all next week!

No Class on May 28!
Mon, May 21, 2007
One of the things we learned tonight (in a great class — wish you were here!) was that next week there will be no class because the facilities were already committed for another purpose.

See you on June 4!

Hebrew on your computer
Wed, May 16, 2007
If you want your computer to display Hebrew text, and if you want to be able to type things in Hebrew text, there are a few things you'll need to do first.

You'll need to install at least one font for Hebrew (there are plenty).

You'll need to configure your computer to use a keyboard layout that includes Hebrew characters.

You'll need to familiarize yourself with the method to switch between languages/glyphs.

That should be it. (The details will be slightly different depending on what tools you have, what kind of operating system you have, and what version it is.) If anyone needs more information, I'll answer those questions here, for the benefit of everyone.

Hello, world!
Mon, May 14, 2007
Well, technically, this site has been up for a few months now... I put up a quick little placeholder page back when we moved from the old facility to the new, so that I could tell people where to find directions...

But now I've fleshed it out just a little... it's still pretty basic, but the two purposes are:
1) have a quick way for me/us to tell other people about the classes — for them to be able to note a simple URL and not have to write down a lot of details, and
2) gather some of the useful resources we've found regarding the Hebrew language.

Please let me know what you find helpful here, AND what you would like to find helpful here.
